Henri Piirainen started his budo journey with Wado-ryu karate in 2009 at Joen Mawashi karate club in Joensuu. He trained Karate actively until moving to Kuusamo in 2020. He has also trained submission grappling for several years.

Henri was introduced to Shindo Yoshin Ryu in 2014 at sensei Threadgill’s seminar in Lohja, Finland and was amazed by the skill & knowledge demonstrated by Threadgill sensei as well as the teaching methodology of the art. A TSYR study group was founded in Joensuu, Finland in 2014. In late 2015 Henri asked to join the study group and was accepted. Henri took keppan in 2017 and received his shoden license from Threadgill sensei in 2020. In 2022, his job required that he move to Helsinki where he established a dojo in Finland’s capital city. TSYR Helsinki is the second TSYR dojo in Finland.
