The Nagarekawa Dojo is a branch dojo of the Takamura ha Shindo Yoshin Kai in Joensuu, Finland. It is partnered with the Joen Mawashi karate club. The dojo was officially founded in fall 2018 when TSYR Shoden Kirigami Mokuroku were issued for Niko Utriainen and Mika levy.
In 2009, Niko Utriainen (and later other instructors from Joen Mawashi) started annually visiting the TSYR seminars in Berlin. In 2014, Utriainen asked Threadgill Sensei to start a TSYR Study Group with other members, Mika Levy and Jussi Petrelius. The study group evolved into an official branch dojo with Mika Levy designated the dojo-cho in fall 2018 becoming the first TSYR Branch Dojo in Finland.
The name Nagarekawa refers to the name of the dojo’s hometown and surroundings (Joensuu, “mouth of the river”) along with one of the jujutsu principles.
