The SMU Martial
Arts Club / Gendai Bushi Dojo operates on the SMU main campus in Dallas, Texas
and is under the direction of Sensei Bryan Robbins. The dojo was established in
1989 by Sensei Bryan Robbins and Sensei Toby Threadgill. The dojo operates as
both a Yanagi Ryu and Shindo Yoshin Ryu affiliate. Yokage Aiki Jujutsu is a gendai
or modern martial study influenced by Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu and Yanagi Ryu
Aiki Jujutsu, and is the principal focus of training at this dojo. Several instructors
in this dojo hold teaching licences in both Yokage Aiki Jujutsu and Takamura ha
Shindo Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu. Instructors in this dojo frequently visit both the
Yanagi Ryu Hombu Dojo in Long Beach, CA and the Shindo Yoshin Kai headquarters
dojo. Through certified Shindo Yoshin Kai instructors at the Gendai Bushi Dojo,
it is possible to obtain instruction in Shindo Yoshin Ryu in addition to Yokage
Aikijujutsu. In 1992, Don Angier presented Chief Instructor Bryan Robbins with
a teaching certificate recognizing him as Dojo Cho and the Gendai Bushi Ryu Dojo
as the only Yanagi Ryu Tozama(affiliate) Dojo.
